Gert Potgieter

Gert Potgieter is a South African sculptor working in welded metal. He studied art at the University of South Africa from 1985 to 1991. He is currently working full time from his studio in Pretoria. His work mostly features figurative compositions involving political social and economic influence. He uses a technique he refers to as metal modeling that involves building up sculpture with small pieces- and blobs of metal welded together around an armature. He developed this technique over many years and as far as can be established, it is unique to his sculpture.
